What about Marilyn Monroe? She's a symbol of perceived perfection and what so many others strive to be.
The thing about icons is...they aren't real. They are mere reflections of reality, like Stepford Wives.
When it comes to entrepreneurship, it's a common practice to try to become an icon. The next big thing. Perfect. How everyone wants to be.
I see this time and time again.
Entrepreneurs want to be bigger, better, more. They want to be the best. They want to be perfect.
Here's the thing...
The secret to success in entrepreneurship and all aspects of life is not to strive for perfection but rather to live most fully and completely into who you really are.
My hope for each of you is that you will come to embrace the gift that you are in the world and realize that no one can serve your tribe like you can...just as you are. So, while it's important to continuously improve your crafts and expand the ways in which you serve, there is never a time to compromise who you are in the process.

Psst...I rediscovered a song I wrote years ago, and while its lyrics reference the search for romantic love, it's actually a powerful metaphor for the search for authenticity in all human relationships...even business ones. Take a listen if you feel so inclined. :)
